FAIRNESS: Equal pay for women
Why March 24?
March 24 marks the date that women have to work to finally reach the average pay men took home the previous year.
Women take home less than men — about 82 cents on the dollar; and the pandemic has exacerbated those economic inequalities.
A lifetime of pay discrimination adds up. It exists for every age group, and widens over a woman’s lifetime. It follows her into her senior years, due to lower retirement savings and pension benefits.
The American Association of University Women, and all who believe in equity, support The Paycheck Fairness Act being debated in Congress now.
This critical legislation will help women, their families, and our overall economy rebound from the current crisis by guaranteeing equal pay for equal work.
Please urge all members of Congress to pass The Paycheck Fairness Act.
