Safe Passage and the Children’s Advocacy Center are presenting the Pinwheels for Prevention fundraising campaign for Child Abuse Awareness month in April.

In Kootenai County in 2020, 1,918 child abuse cases were reported, with thousands more across the state of Idaho.

While these numbers can be heartbreaking, Safe Passage's Children's Advocacy Center is working every day to raise awareness and bring an end to child abuse in North Idaho. The CAC provides forensic interviews for local law enforcement and the Department of Health and Welfare in a safe, welcoming environment where children will feel more comfortable sharing their story with trained forensic interviewers.

This year for Child Abuse Awareness Month in April, Safe Passage is raising funds for the CAC. The nonprofit will sell 1,918 pinwheels that will be placed in the lawn of the Kootenai County Courthouse to provide a visual representation of every reported case of child abuse in Kootenai County in 2020. All proceeds will go right back to the CAC to continue to fund resources needed for local families affected by child abuse.

Pinwheels can be purchased at www.safepassageid.org/events for $5 each.
