Tribe cancels Julyamsh Powwow

| March 18, 2021 1:00 AM

The Coeur d'Alene Tribe on Wednesday announced it has canceled the Julyamsh Powwow scheduled this summer due to coronavirus concerns.

It is typically held annually in July and the event is one of the largest powwows in the nation bringing the best drums from across the U.S. and Canada and dancers across the continent, according to the tribe's Facebook post.

“As we continue to implement health and safety precautions during this pandemic we have decided to cancel this year’s event due to its size and the fact that so many travel from all over the country for it,” said Laura Penney, CEO of Coeur d’Alene Casino.

The event was also canceled in 2020.
