Snow a no-show

| March 18, 2021 1:00 AM

The years 1913 and 1944 are the only two it didn’t snow in the month of March in Coeur d’Alene.

March 2021 may join them.

“The only chance I see for snow would be sometime early next week,” said climatologist Cliff Harris on Wednesday, when it was a sunny 62 degrees. “I know people are getting their snow tires off. They should be pretty safe.”

Harris said 53.9 inches of snow has fallen this winter, which is about 12 inches less than normal.

While snow is a no-show, the sun is shining through.

A new record, the most hours of sunshine at 168, was set in the first half of March in Coeur d’Alene. It broke the old record of 113 hours set in 1944.

Rain is in the forecast in the coming days, and some cooler temperatures, but nothing like the weather extremes that have been hammering other areas of the country.

“I’d rather have this than tornadoes or blizzards,” Harris said.
