Lewiston 3-10

Lake City 0-0

LEWISTON — The host Bengals, mentioned as a favorite by some coaches in the league, blanked the Timberwolves in an Inland Empire League sweep at Airport Park.

In the first game, Samantha Mader struck out 13 and walked five for Lewiston (4-0, 2-0 IEL). Phoebe Schultze struck out eight and walked four in four innings for Lake City (1-2, 1-2). An error in the first inning led to two unearned runs by the Bengals.

Hanah Stoddard had two hits, including a triple, in the second game for Lake City. Katie Banks struck out eight and walked one for Lewiston. Taryn Barney had three hits, including a solo homer, and three RBIs for the Bengals.

“Lewiston jumped on us early in the first game, and we were put in some positions that I think will help us in later games,” Lake City coach Jesse Lenz said. “I have to give a lot of credit to the Lewiston pitchers for keeping us off balance all day, and I will take responsibility for not having the girls ready to go at the plate. We battled both games, and we moved a lot of people around, and we got to see many different looks with our team. Overall, this was a great learning experience on the road for our young team, and I hope to see lots of growth in the coming days and weeks.”

Lake City returns to action next Tuesday at Coeur d’Alene in a doubleheader.
