PREP ROUNDUP: CHS boys, girls win Lewiston golf event

| March 16, 2021 1:00 AM

LEWISTON - Relatively mild mid-March weather and a unique two-person scramble format helped North Idaho prep golf teams start the season on a positive note Monday at Lewiston Country Club.

With each school's top three pairs counting toward the team score, Coeur d'Alene High's boys team edged the host Bengals, 214 to 215.

Lewiston's No. 1 and No. 2 golfers, Jack Scibly and Carson King, carded a 65 between them, with Cd'A's top tandem of Cole Jaworski and Parker Freeman placing second with a 67.

"I was excited to watch our Viking boys & girls compete after missing last season," Coeur d'Alene coach Chase Bennett said. "We had great turnout this year for girls & boys and we are working hard every day to prepare ourselves for 5A districts & state, which we will be hosting at Avondale this year."

Post Falls finished third with a 226 team score, with Dominic Mosby and Cameron Rotchford carding an even-par 72.

Sandpoint finished fourth with a 235 team score, led by the twosome of Harley Wilks and Dawson Owens (75).

Lake City and Lakeland tied for fifth at 236. Aden Sandlin and Kyler Gordon shot an even-par 72 to lead the Hawks, while Seth Hartley and Jack Kiesbuy were the top Timberwolves tandem at 77.

Girls: Cd'A wins team title

LEWISTON - Three low-scoring tandems led the Coeur d'Alene girls team to the team title at Monday's similarly-formatted event, held at Bryden Canyon Golf Course.

Paige Crabb and Taylor Potter teamed up to shoot 80, which tied them with two other tandems for medalist honors. The Vikings shot 244 as a team.

Camille Neuder and Annaby Kanning also shot 80 for Sandpoint, leading the Bulldogs to a second-place score of 258.

JoJo Dodge and Ashlynn Shanley also shot an 80, helping Lake City take third with a 266 team score.

"Started out the year with a scramble format for the Lewiston tournament. It was a great way to start the year for the girls because we don’t have a ton of tournament experience in our varsity lineup," Timberwolves coach Corey Owen said. "The girls played well and had fun so it was a great start to the season.
