WIDOW: No credit card, no luck

| March 14, 2021 1:00 AM

I am a 72-year-old widow who has experienced elder abuse here in Coeur d’Alene. Apparently, you count as nothing if you do not own a credit card.

I tried to get a room overnight at two motels. Neither one would provide a room, nor even call a taxi cab for me. I ended up walking alone in the dark with my walker back to a senior living center. One man even rolled down his window and said, “Lady, do you even know what street you’re on?”

Another day, I was down Fourth Street in the pouring rain to get to the chiropractor and nobody offered a ride.

It was my understanding that Coeur d’Alene was a friendly town and was very helpful to others. I am very disappointed with the ill treatment I have received. I even cashed in one insurance policy and sold my car in order to pay my living center bill. I’ve sacrificed all I have to live here, but apparently it is time for me to find another place to live.

Is this how you want your mother or loved one to be treated?

Let’s stop elder abuse in every community.
