Three University of Idaho theater students were honored with top awards during the recent virtual Region 7 Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival.

Junior Hannah Verdi, of Hayden, won the Regional Musical Theatre Scholarship and was named the Region 7 Open Jar Scholarship recipient, receiving a $600 scholarship to Open Jar, a New York City Broadway-integrated actor training program.

Senior Andrew Yoder, of Boise, won the National Award for Excellence in Sound Design for the third consecutive year for his work in U of I’s production of “The Moors.”

Master of Fine Arts candidate Brindle Brundage, of St. George, Utah, won three awards: the Barbizon National Award for Excellence in Scenic Design for her work on “The Revolutionists;" the Randy Lutz Allied Design and Technology Award in for her work on “The Moors;” and the Stagecraft Institute of Las Vegas Award, which comes with a one-week internship at Stagecraft Institute of Las Vegas.

Yoder and Brundage will have their work showcased online and are eligible to be awarded more honors at the national level. Both also received full registration for the U.S. Institute of Theatre Technology Conference. Additionally, Brundage has an opportunity to take master classes with Santa Fe Opera this summer.

The festival awards are part of a national theater program involving more than 18,000 students from colleges and universities across the country. Region 7 includes Idaho, Washington, Oregon, Wyoming, Montana, Colorado, Alaska, Northern Nevada and Northern California.
