PREP SOFTBALL: Timberlake swept by Lewiston in opener

LEWISTON — After last year’s COVID-aborted spring sports season, the Timberlake softball team became the first local team to open the 2021 spring sports season Thursday, falling 15-5 and 12-2 to the Lewiston Bengals in nonleague play at Airport Park.

In the first game, Lacey Peterson went 3 for 3 for Timberlake, and Brooke Jessen added two hits.

Taryn Barney was 4 for 4 for Lewiston with two doubles, a triple and four RBIs.

In the second game, Emma Howard went 2 for 3 and scored a run for Timberlake.

Taryn Barney was 3 for 3 with two runs and three RBIs for Lewiston.

Timberlake played all of one game last year before the coronavirus wiped out the spring high school sports season.

Timberlake is scheduled to play a doubleheader Saturday at Orofino.
