SCHOOLS: Continue your support

Ron Nilson is a terrific man who offered a strong proposal when Sherman Hardware was going out of business. The owner entertained the idea of donating the contents of his store to North Idaho College and KTEC. However, his accountant reportedly said there’s no deduction for material to schools, only cash.

Well, that’s apparently not true. Staff from NIC and KTEC came to the store but the owner wasn’t comfortable with the proposal. No one wants problems with the IRS. So finally Ron Nilson flew in from an overseas trip just to talk with the owner. He even brought his big shot accountant with him via the phone. It never worked out, but not for the lack of trying.

It’s too bad. The schools and students would have benefited greatly from it. I questioned our state legislators about this and of course it fell on deaf ears like everything does. When the state put the schools on sales tax it sent all the money to Boise and we lost local control. But we gained high levies.

I’m watching all the hoopla going around from the modern Republicans. They have a way of searching for any small thing to come up with a reason to hate the whole thing and it doesn’t matter the topic. I’m really having a hard time understanding why they moved here if life is so bad here. I’d think they’d be looking for the promised land elsewhere.

Public schools create our middle class and we are the only country in the world that still has one. It’s the middle class that makes America exceptional. So that’s my long-winded way of saying make America great again. Support your local schools.
