MANAGER: County doesn’t need it

Residents of Kootenai County, it has come to my attention, strictly by chance, that one or two of our commissioners are going forward with a study to create the position of Kootenai County Manager. Sounds reasonable, but is it?

Nutshelled, this person would be hired, and would be in charge of hiring/firing six of our county officials that we the people currently vote into office. Sheriff, Prosecuting Attorney, Assessor, Treasurer, Coroner and Clerk. This effectively ends the voice voters have in how our county is run, and is a recipe for corruption. Not to mention further eroding the democratic process.

The commissioners who back this are basically saying that their constituents are stupid, and they know better how things should be done. They have an agenda, and they are pushing it. If this bothers you, WRITE THEM A LETTER! Commissioners Brooks, Fillios and Duncan, 451 Government Way, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83814. I did. And remember, we voted them in, we can vote them out.
