STATE BOYS BASKETBALL TOURNAMENTS: Lakeland fights off elimination

MERIDIAN — Junior Grant Roth scored a game-high 18 points, hitting four 3-pointers for the Lakeland Hawks in a 71-42 win over the Twin Falls Bruins in a loser-out game in the state 4A tournament on Friday at Rocky Mountain High.

Senior Carson Seay scored 17 points for Lakeland, which shot 22 of 43 and ran out to a 22-6 lead after the first quarter.

Lakeland (12-10) will face Jerome (22-2), a 74-57 winner over Skyline of Idaho Falls, toady at 9 a.m. PST in the consolation championship game at Rocky Mountain.

Twin Falls finished 15-14.

NAMPA — Priest River saw its state run come to an end, falling to Fruitland (17-7) in a state 3A consolation game at Columbia High.

In its first trip to state since 2011, Priest River finished 0-2.

For the second straight game at state, Priest River (14-10) fell behind early and could not dig out of it. At the half, the Spartans trailed 51-28. The Grizzlies were feeling it in the first half and shot 56.8% (21/37) from the field. On the other side, the Spartans struggled hitting just 28.1% (9/32) of their shots.

Fruitland outrebounded Priest River 61-30.

Jordan Nortz led the team with 14 points, five rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals. Trentyn Kreager grabbed 13 points and eight rebounds, Jace Yount tallied 10 points and three rebounds and Luke Butler added six points.

Hyrum Lindsey led Fruitland with 20 points and nine rebounds and Nolan Bower had 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Kimberly (13-11) faces Fruitland (17-7) in the consolation championship today.
