FEAR: Let’s look closer

A recent letter writer expounded on climate change, and along the way he said, “fear is the favorite propaganda tool of the Democrat-Socialist party…They excel in fear (and hate).”

How can he say that when we see Republicans and far right “haters” demonstrate nothing more than fear? What cause do the gun-toting “right-thinking” patriots have for carrying guns but fear? Fear that the second amendment will be taken, fear that the social services available in our country will be socialism, fear that any regulations of guns will make the government come after them, fear that our elections will be crooked.

The whole theme of the letter written by this man is fear. Fear that President Biden will destroy our country because he is concerned with climate change and the things that scientists tell us we should be doing. Fear that the Paris Climate Accord will somehow do us harm. Fear that the president will somehow magically change our democratic republic into socialism.

I can allay his fears by pointing out the thousands of huge department stores, insurance companies, stock brokerages, grocery chain stores, news media run completely without government intervention. No president or political party is close to making our country that FEARED word: SOCIALISM. Obama couldn’t do it, Trump couldn’t do it, and Biden cannot do it. Get over it.
