KCSO warns of scams calls
COEUR d'ALENE — The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office warned residents on Thursday of scam calls going around the area.
The victims reported a male called and identified himself as a KCSO deputy. The caller advised the victim that they have a warrant and in order to fix the warrant they will need to deposit money into a bank account.
Don't do it.
The KCSO says it will not call the public to let them know they have a warrant.
Anyone who thinks they have a warrant can go to www.kcsheriff.com and look for active warrants in the jail tab.
"The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office would never ask for money to fix a warrant," a press release said. "Warrants are issued by the courts and only a judge can quash a warrant."
KCSO said with tax season in full effect, people should be aware of potential IRS scams.
"Again the federal government will not call anyone and let them know they have a warrant," the release said. "They will also not call and tell someone to give them money or personnel information or a warrant would be issued."
If you receive these calls, don’t provide them any funds or personnel information, KCSO said.
