SHOLEH: Stands up for seniors

| March 3, 2021 1:00 AM

I want to send a big thank you to Sholeh Patrick for her column “Online Expectations of Seniors Unkind.” She really did a fantastic job of listing the problems for some seniors with the current reliance on digital skills to get COVID vaccinations. I had the same problem when trying to renew my driver’s license.

I have a computer and use email, but I found it extremely unfair that the CDC or PHD act like we should all rush to get vaccinated and then learn that it is preferred that you go online and navigate the system to get an appointment.

I tried calling 1-877-415-5225 and got a recording, so I hung up.

I know I am spoiled as I have been getting a flu shot at a pharmacy for the last 50 years with no hassle. I don’t want to ask my kids or grandkids for help. Lowers my self-esteem!

I promised my son I would try again. I’ll call the PHD number and if that doesn’t work, I will call my own physician. If that doesn’t work, I can call a couple pharmacies.

If that doesn’t work, I can just wait a few weeks or a month.

Maybe with millions of doses being manufactured and available there will be changes that will make it easier to get vaccinated. I’m really not afraid of getting sick since I’ve made it for 11 months and I’m healthy. I’m 81 so I know I will eventually qualify for a vaccination.

I really appreciate Sholeh for daring to question the current system. I know this is unusual circumstances, but there has to be a better way.
