Vandals move into FCS rankings at No. 19

Idaho's football team moved into the poll at No. 19 in the Stats Perform FCS National Poll after a thrilling 28-21 win over then-No. 12 Eastern Washington on Saturday.

It is the first time that the Vandals have been ranked since rejoining the FCS ranks in 2018. The No. 19 ranking is the highest by an Idaho team since being ranked No. 13 in week five of the 1995 season, Idaho’s last season at the FCS level prior to moving to the Big West in the FBS.

EWU dropped to No. 22.

Weber State moved up to No. 2 — its highest ranking in school history — with a 49-21 win at Idaho State.

Idaho plays host to UC Davis on Saturday at noon.

WSU's

SAN FRANCISCO - Washington State's Charlisse Leger-Walker was among the women's basketball players honored with Pac-12 all-conference and performance awards, conference officials announced Monday.

Leger-Walker earned Pac-12 Freshman of the Year honors, and Stanford's Lacie Hull (a graduate of Central Valley High in Spokane Valley) was tabbed the league's Sixth Player of the Year.

Other honorees included Pac-12 Player of the Year Aari McDonald of Arizona and coach of the year Tara VanDerveer of Stanford.

Leger-Walker, a guard from Waikato, New Zealand, was named the league’s Freshman of the Week seven times this season, becoming the third player in Pac-12 history to earn the distinction seven-or-more times. She is currently tied for the Conference lead with 19.6 points per game and posted a dozen 20+ point performances this season, the most in the league.

Leger-Walker is the second Cougar ever to earn the honor, joining Aike Dietel in 1998, and is the 23rd player in Pac-12 history to be named to the All-Pac-12 Team as a freshman. She led Washington State to three wins over top-25 teams and its first winning season since 2014-15.

Hull made 21-of-22 appearances off the bench for regular-season champion Stanford and provided the Cardinal with key presence on both sides of the floor all season long. Hull is averaging 17 minutes and a 43.4 shooting percentage from the floor, while contributing 2.7 boards per game and a 1.9 assist to turnover ratio.

Zags sweep last weekly WCC honors of 2020-21

SAN MATEO, Calif. — The West Coast Conference named Gonzaga's Corey Kispert and Jalen Suggs the Men's Basketball Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week, respectively.

Kispert led the top-ranked Zags to two wins to finish off the program’s first unbeaten regular season this past week. He scored 49 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and made four steals in his final two home games at GU, vs. Santa Clara and LMU.

This is the third weekly honor for Kispert this season and the fourth in his All-American career.

Suggs averaged 12.5 points, 7.5 assists, 6.5 rebounds and two steals per game this past week. Against Santa Clara, he nearly had the program’s second triple-double with 13 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists. Suggs scored 12 points and dished out seven assists in the regular season finale versus Loyola Marymount on Saturday.

This is the 10th freshman of the week honor for Suggs so far this season and the 11th in 14 weeks for the Bulldogs.
