GROWTH: Dig deeper on stories

| June 30, 2021 1:00 AM

Staff Writer Madison Hardy’s Press article entitled “Hayden P&Z OKs New Neighborhood” doesn’t tell the full story.

I was at that P&Z meeting in Hayden on June 21 and before going to the meeting read the many emails in opposition to this Hayden development that were posted on the city of Hayden’s website for all to read.

I was incredibly impressed by several of the letters; the authors had done a great deal of research. These comments were very well thought out and addressed one of the standards for approving a new development — that of Safety and Public Welfare.

At least nine people spoke at the meeting when it came time for public input. They spoke responsibly, with well-researched information and impassioned pleas in opposition. None of this was mentioned in your article.

I understand that when Commissioners, City Council, Mayors, etc., don’t get any input, they believe that what they are doing is approved by the public. This meeting had a great deal of input in opposition to this development. Yet none of this was mentioned in your article.

I am grateful that there are seemingly more articles about growth in North Idaho in The Press. However, please don’t forget to research the full story, so those people who take the time to be involved in their communities are not ignored.
