COUNTY: Clueless on fires

| June 30, 2021 1:00 AM

It is predicted that this year will likely be one of the worst years for drought and extreme high temperatures in Kootenai County. So instead of saying NO to fireworks, campfires or burning on private property, the county is tiptoeing around and trying to make it sort of safe by allowing certain types of fireworks and by allowing campfires and other burning with certain rules.

Why is Kootenai County so timid about just saying no to fireworks period, except on a lake, and no fires period whether in campgrounds or private property? Are you afraid that for one summer, people just can’t tolerate not having fireworks or campfires? Do you think that everyone will follow your new rules about campfires or fireworks? That’s like thinking that no one will flick lit cigarettes out of their vehicle windows because they were told not to by the county.

How many people in the county even get the Coeur d’Alene Press or even look online to see what may be different about fire control this year? Does the county know that fireworks deemed illegal by Kootenai County are sold every year just outside the county boundaries?

Just man up and say “No” to fireworks, campfires and private property fires and make it much safer for all and much easier to manage fire prevention.
