DOGS: Patience pays off
During this awful pandemic, and more recently because of this hoarding situation in Kellogg, many people have adopted animals from the shelters. This is really wonderful, except when these animals have to be returned. Sometimes this just can’t be helped, for whatever reason. But I wanted to share our own experience with the many dogs we’ve adopted over the years.
All of our dogs have been rescues, either through shelters or rescue groups. Most have been older, sometimes old. These have turned out to all be phenomenal dogs, though not without some challenges. They had all lived in one or more homes before coming to us, each with its own set of rules. They just needed a little time to know what our family’s rules and boundaries were. It took patience, but we had that to give.
Most dogs live to make us happy. They long to get it “right.” But in a new home, they often don’t know what “right” is. These dogs come to a new family scared and nervous because they don’t know what is expected of them. They need a little time to be lovingly shown what your expectations are.
If you are able to give this then, like us, you will be rewarded with a loving companion for many years.
