DEBT: Both parties guilty

| June 27, 2021 1:00 AM

I was born the day before the stock market crash that ushered in the Great Depression of the 1930s, so I have witnessed the economic policies of many political administrations.

Franklin D. Roosevelt led us out of the Depression and Dwight D. Eisenhower created our Interstate Highway system. Both of these administrations served our nation well and established sound fiscal policies to pay for their programs. During this era we were a strong, vibrant, independent united nation. The administrations that followed have lost all fiscal responsibility and we are certainly not united.

In 2017, the Republican Party controlled all three branches of government and could have worked toward a balanced budget. Instead, their revised tax plan added $2.3 trillion of corporate welfare to our national debt.

Now President Biden is handing out billions of dollars here and billions of dollars there to appease his Progressive followers. We can’t sustain this madness. We are at, or approaching, $30 trillion in national debt, a debt that will never be repaid.

Freedom is not free and individuals making more than $400,000 annually should pay more toward infrastructure that supports their businesses. Raising the corporate tax to 27% will not hurt Wall Street. Both of these changes would go a long way toward balancing our budget.

Wake up, America. Both political parties are leading our nation down the same path that destroyed the Roman Empire.
