PRAISE: The Kertin rises

| June 20, 2021 1:00 AM

Wanted to applaud the young man, Kertin Saunders, 9, featured on the front page of Local for his great spirit and for learning so early in life about “making lemonade” when life throws you a few lemons.

And thanks to the Coeur d’Alene Press for covering it, nice job!

My wife and I read that article and decided immediately that Kertin needed support, so we headed up to his “business outlet.” Truly refreshing to see that young man dutifully manning his business front as we drove up in front.

What a great little man. Totally courteous and equipped with many beverages. I asked about a “diet drink” and in perfect English he said, “unfortunately no.” HE’S 9 YEARS OLD! What a treasure!

I swear he reminded me of myself when I was 8 or 9. Mowing lawns, washing cars, collecting pieces of metal to take to the junk yard to help the war effort (Korea), and always having a job from the earliest age…a lost art form.

My folks taught me how you appreciate things so much more if you have to earn them. This young man is on such a good path and clearly has some very wise parents. I salute that family with all the enthusiasm I can muster!

I asked Kertin what he wanted to do when he grew up. To my astonishment he wants to do exactly the same thing I did in life! (Not for me to reveal here.)

Well done Kertin, and best wishes in your career. You will do great in that very honorable profession!
