Cd’A man charged with rape

COEUR d’ALENE — A man is being held on $200,000 bail after police said he raped a 14-year-old girl.

Maxim C. Lyreman, 20, of Coeur d’Alene, is charged with rape, a felony.

The charge stems from 2019, when Lyreman was 19.

A girl who was 14 at the time of the alleged incident told police she met Lyreman through a mutual friend.

Lyreman invited the girl to his Coeur d’Alene residence in November 2019, according to court documents — a group home where he lived with several other people and was supervised by staff.

An employee later confirmed to police that the girl visited the residence that night and spent time in Lyreman’s bedroom.

The employee said he believed sexual activity occurred in the bedroom, according to court documents.

When staff asked the girl’s age, Lyreman allegedly said she was 18.

The girl said she tried to push Lyreman away when he kissed her while the pair were alone in his bedroom.

She told police Lyreman groped her, removed her clothes and raped her.

After the alleged assault, the girl said she walked home.

Her father reportedly came home from work to find his daughter on the floor of her bedroom. She told him Lyreman had raped her, according to court documents, and he drove her to Kootenai Health.

Police said physical evidence collected at the hospital matched a DNA sample provided by Lyreman.

Prosecutors said they did not file charges against Lyreman until June 15 because of a delay in DNA testing results, as well as out of consideration for the teen girl’s mental health.

Lyreman was taken into custody Tuesday, after a judge issued a warrant for his arrest.

Judge Ross Pittman ordered Thursday that Lyreman be held on $200,000 bail.
