SOCCER: Prohaska leads Timbers in Far West opener

SALT LAKE CITY — Cooper Prohaska, a rising Coeur d’Alene High junior, recorded a hat trick for the Timbers North FC 05 boys in a 3-1 win over Real United FC Soccer of Las Vegas in the opening round of the U16 bracket of the US Soccer Far West Presidents Cup on Wednesday.

Bryce Allred of Lake City had two assists and Miles Taylor from Coeur d’Alene Charter had an assist and eight saves.

The team will face B-Elite Soccer Academy of Colorado Springs, Colo., today. Both teams are unbeaten.

Post Falls’ Lance Gilmor scored on an assist from Joseph Sarkis, but fell 2-1 to the East Valley Soccer Club of Gilbert, Ariz. The Timbers will face Rapids South of Aurora, Colo., today.

Lake City’s Maddie Daigle had a goal and assist for the Thorns 06 girls in a 4-2 loss to MetaSport FC of Bountiful, Utah in a U15 bracket opener.

Sally Gatten had a goal and Izzy Douglas an assist for the Thorns, who play SF Aftershocks of San Francisco today.
