Timbers, Thorns teams begin play at Far West Presidents Cup

Three members of the Timbers-Thorns North FC begin play today at the U.S. Youth Soccer Far West Presidents Cup in Salt Lake City.

The Thorns North FC 06 girls are in the U15 division

The Timbers North FC 05 boys are in the U16 division.

The Timbers North FC 04 boys are in the U17 division.

Group play is today through Friday, with semifinals on Saturday and the finals on Sunday.

Regional champions advance to the USYS National Presidents Cup July 7-11 in Des Moines, Iowa.

In 2018, a local girls team advanced to the championship game at nationals in Indiana.

Grove, Walsh, Hatley, Bomar in mix at Oregon Open

SISTERS, Ore. — North Idaho College men's and women's golf coach Russell Grove is tied for 10th after the first day of the 54-hole Oregon Open Invitational on Tuesday at Black Butte Ranch.

Grove, the 2017 champion, shot a 2-under-par 70. David Phay, from Whidbey Golf Club in Oak Harbor, Wash., shot a 7-under 65 and leads by two shots.

Brent Walsh of the Coeur d'Alene Golf Club, and amateur Reid Hatley of Hayden Lake Country Club, the 2019 winner, each shot 1-under 71s.

Billy Bomar, co-owner at Prairie Falls Golf Club, shot a 1-over 73.

The tourney continues today and concludes Thursday.
