FLAGS: Don’t mix these two

| June 9, 2021 1:00 AM

I was bothered on Memorial Day seeing people driving around with the American and Confederate flags displayed together. Memorial Day is a day of remembrance of people who died defending our country, its ideals and its principles.

The Confederate flag? What does this flag represent? Slavery? States’ Rights? When both are displayed together, they contradict each other. Freedom vs. Slavery.

Another problem is that the Confederate flag can represent treason. Treason as defined in the Constitution in Article 3, Section 3 as “Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort.”

The Confederacy declared war on the United States by firing on Fort Sumter.
