Notable Calls for the day

May 30

Day Shift handled the following notable calls: Deputies responded to a two vehicle injury crash at Big Sky x Huetter Rd. One driver suffered a broken leg. Report taken. 21-22096

Deputies contacted a transient male for the second time in two days as he was being reported as yelling at people and cars along Fernan Lake Rd. He was warned for his behavior and advised to stay out of the roadway

Rec Safety, the Dive Team and Deputies and Kootenai Fire and Rescue responded to a Drowning report in the area of Corbin Park on the Spokane River. It was reported several people were in the water on inner tubes and fell off into the current. As units arrived, three of the people were able to get to the north shore of the river and to safety. For a short time, a female was missing, but was soon located on the south shore and out of danger. No one was wearing a life jacket and the current below the dam is very dangerous due to the dam being open.

Evening shift handled the following notable calls: While in briefing, ISP aired that they were in pursuit of a stolen vehicle northbound 95 at Neider Avenue. The vehicle was driving erratically and at high speeds. ISP was heard to request additional units, and it was believed he was alone in the pursuit. The deputies cleared the office and responded to assist. The pursuit went north of Hayden until another ISP trooper was able to set spike strips in the area of Hwy 95 and Garwood. The vehicle came to a stop and the suspect exited the vehicle wielding a hatchet. He ignored commands to surrender and drop the hatchet, and began to run across the median into oncoming traffic. KCSO Deputies were arriving to the area as this was occurring and followed the male as he began to approach other vehicles that were stopped, yielding to law enforcement and avoiding running over the male. A Deputy was able to utilize his patrol vehicle to create a blockade between the male and the citizens. The suspect then struck the hood of the Deputy’s patrol vehicle with the hatchet and continued running. A foot chase ensued until another Deputy tased the suspect and he was taken into custody. The suspect was identified and ISP arrested him for felony eluding, and possession of a stolen vehicle. He was also arrested by the Deputy for felony malicious injury to property, and battery on a peace officer. 21-22139

Deputies responded to Hayden Lake Road near Mockins Bay for the report of an injury crash. It was reported via third party that a male had crashed his car and had possible injuries. After searching the area, the male was not found. It was soon called in afterwards that he was in the area of Burnt Cabin. The deputies responded to the area in an attempt to locate him. After two hours of searching, they were able to locate him off an unnamed logging road near the 1152 and 406. He was uninjured, but admitted to going to the area for the purpose of suicide. He was placed into protective custody and transported to Kootenai Health. 21-22150

Deputies responded to Pine Ridge Drive after a male was reported missing. The male reportedly suffers from dementia and had been gone for several hours after taking a walk near the water. They searched the area for several hours, along with the assistance from the Marine Division, without any success. As resources were being gathered for a search and rescue call-out, the male arrived home after a passerby located him on the highway. He was uninjured and just got lost during his walk. The family was talked to about resources that are available regarding his more frequent bouts of wandering. 21-22149

Night Shift handled the following notable calls: While working a DUI emphasis patrol, a Deputy arrested a male at Seltice X Ante Road for DUI (.168/.167). 21-22191

Deputies responded to E Coeur D Alene Lake Drive for a non-injury crash. A 17 year old juvenile male was able to get out of the vehicle that was up on its side. The juvenile’s parents arrived on scene and signed a patient refusal. The Deputies completed a crash report. 21-22184

Deputies were en-route to a missing 8 year old juvenile at Farragut State Park. Prior to deputies’ arrival, the juvenile was located by a park ranger. 21-22174

A Deputy handled an internet sex offense case. A male stated he had met a female on an online dating site. The male downloaded a texting app on his phone. The two began sending and receiving nude photos of each other. The female then took his nude photos and began sending them to his Instagram followers and demanded $200.00 in order for her to stop sending his photos. The Deputy completed a crime report. 21-22193
