GUNS: End the violence

| June 2, 2021 1:00 AM

My mom, Janet Wollan, was a victim of gun violence. So was my uncle. So was my friend Manuel DeLira. So was Sergeant Greg Moore, and countless others, including those who died by suicide.

National Gun Violence Awareness Day and Wear Orange call attention to and honor all victims of gun violence. It occurs across the country every year on the first weekend of June.

We are thankful Mayor Widmyer has in prior years issued a proclamation to honor all those impacted by gun violence, but are disheartened that he has declined to do so again this year.

Idaho has the fifth highest rate of gun suicide in the country. Remembering lives lost to gun violence, honoring survivors, and coming together to end gun violence is not a partisan issue and as an Idahoan and a survivor, I am disappointed the city of Coeur d’Alene will not be participating this year.
