DALTON: We can do better

| June 2, 2021 1:00 AM

Respect, common sense, and common decency…

Unfortunately, here in Dalton Gardens, it appears most of the City Council is trending toward the lack of these traits. Our city is dysfunctional due to the “anti-government” views of the council majority. Simple, common sense actions that are needed for the city government to function are being delayed and tabled due to a political agenda that does not represent our city as a whole.

Again, a political agenda and stubborn attitudes that represent a “we know better than the professionals hired by the city” and conspiracy theories like “the cities of Hayden and Hayden Lake are collaborating to route traffic through 4th Street in Dalton Gardens” have contributed to chaos and multiple resignations of city administrative officials.

As our city, county and state grow in population, common sense solutions to traffic and other infrastructure issues need to be addressed with professional, timely, informed actions, not continual conflict and grandstanding.

I urge all residents of Dalton Gardens to demand better from the majority of our current city council and work toward functioning as an independent, rural community.

As a native of Idaho, born and raised in Coeur d’Alene and Dalton Gardens, it is my sincere hope that we as a community do not relent to the forces of conspiracy, anti-governance, mistrust and anger under the guise of conservatism.
