VACCINES: What’s behind ‘no’

| July 30, 2021 1:00 AM

There have been several letters to the editor vilifying those who choose not to get vaccinated against the COVID virus. I thought it would be reasonable to respond as to why many folk in Idaho do not believe they should be vaccinated.

The primary reason is that we do not accept non-medical persons telling us what we should do with our bodies when we are not a danger to those persons who are vaccinated — assuming the vaccines are effective. It may seem to some vaccinated persons that only an uncaring person would not want to keep from passing a disease to another person just because they believe it is an invasion of their rights as mature adults.

Most adult Americans are used to making their own decisions regarding what is best for them and others over whom they have control. The Preamble of our Constitution tells us that All men are created equal with inalienable rights; one of which is Liberty. Liberty is a right that we Americans hold dear. Part of that right is to determine what is best to do or not do.

If someone is trying to put a guilt trip on a free person, that person, if wise, will evaluate what would be accomplished if one were to accede to the effort. One would, in our case, have to give up a right to determine what goes into one’s body. Unless there is a demonstrable result by giving up that right, the answer would have to be “no.”

If you are vaccinated, an unvaccinated person is not a danger to you. If not vaccinated, it’s by your choice.
