Randles named CHS principal

Mike Randles was named Coeur d’Alene High School principal on Wednesday.

Randles has been assistant principal and activities director at CHS for the past five years. Prior to that he spent more than 20 years in the classroom, primarily as a secondary English teacher.

“I am both honored and humbled by this opportunity,” he said. “Having been part of the Viking Family for the past five years, I have a profound sense of appreciation for our caring and dedicated staff, our resilient students, and our Viking community at large — alumni, parents, and boosters — whose support and passion is second to none.”

Randles succeeds Libbi Barrett, who was named assistant superintendent of Secondary Education and Curriculum earlier this summer.

“Mike has served CHS in a variety of administrative capacities for the last five years, which gives him a keen perspective on how to lead a large comprehensive high school,” Barrett said. “He has made it a priority to get to know the students and families at CHS and celebrates the great Viking traditions at Coeur d'Alene High School. While providing continuity, he will also be the innovative leader that CHS requires. I couldn't be happier for the staff, students and Viking community. They are in good hands with Mike Randles at the helm."

Randles received his undergraduate degree at the University of Montana and his Masters in Educational Leadership at the University of Idaho. He has worked with all facets of secondary administration, including curriculum, discipline and student activities.

“We are pleased to welcome Mr. Randles as our new CHS principal,” said Dr. Shon Hocker, superintendent of Coeur d'Alene Public Schools. “He is clearly the right choice to guide our Viking community, and his selection ensures a continuity of leadership at CHS. We look forward to moving forward with him and the entire CHS team.”
