NELLY: Diversity welcomed

| July 28, 2021 1:00 AM

As someone born in Coeur d’Alene more than 50 years ago, I continue to be horrified by the new brand of politics and “community concern” that the new ultra conservative members are bringing with them.

The newest ploy is trying to ban Nelly from performing at the NI Fair. Apparently Nelly doesn’t perform in a way that Idaho’s “traditional communities” approve of — just be brave enough to say white communities. They also say Nelly is no Elvis Presley. Seriously? Elvis was at first hated by parents because of the suggestive way he performed that could lead their children astray. But oh yeah, he was white so that was OK.

North Idaho, we better wake up and let these new activists who have recently moved here know that racism and hate have no place here. Make no mistake, they are very active and organized to infiltrate our local government.

I applaud the North Idaho Fair’s choice to bring a diverse selection of performers to the fair.
