HOUSING: Two simple solutions

| July 28, 2021 1:00 AM

Lack of housing seems to be critical at the moment. The numbers of homeless people appears to be growing. Some have said they cannot hire people for jobs because of a lack of affordable housing.

Part of the reason for the homeless is that some states closed “non-essential businesses” during the pandemic. This was a direct and serious violation of the U.S. Constitution. Many people lost their jobs, and large numbers also lost their housing.

These housing problems are primarily caused by government programs? There are fairly simple solutions, but right now they are mainly illegal.

Any mobile home built before 1977 is illegal to sell or move. Yet, these can be made perfectly safe with some electrical upgrades costing less than $200. And many tiny homes could be built for less than $50,000, but they would require some changes in universal building codes.

If the government were to relax some laws, and stay out of the housing market, it would ultimately solve itself. Government is not the solution to the problem: Government is the problem.
