Mary Rose Andersen, 93

It is with deep sorrow yet tremendous love that our family shares the news of our mother’s passing.

Mary Rose Simoneau Andersen was born to Joseph and Lucille Simoneau on Jan. 2, 1928, and died at home surrounded by family in Hayden, Idaho, on July 19, 2021. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald Andersen, granddaughter Dana Maag and grandson David Rayan.

Mary was the last surviving of 14 children, born and raised during the Great Depression in Hanks, N.D. While waiting tables in her sister’s café, a customer named Donald Andersen paid her a compliment, made her blush, then made her his bride. Their faith in God, devotion to family and community service were constants during their life together. As a sign of their everlasting love, they renewed their wedding vows several times during their 68 years of marriage. With faith, her family believes Don and Mary are dancing together once again in heaven.

Mary was a devoted mother of eight, remembered for her generosity, kindness and quiet strength. In 1962 her family joined as charter members of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. She served her church community faithfully, providing comfort to countless people while serving on the funeral committee.

Mary developed and nurtured lifelong friendships, corresponding faithfully. She carefully archived photographs, news clippings and mementos to commemorate important milestones in the lives of those she loved. She was always game to drive or fly with Don to visit and celebrate life events with friends and family.

Mary was so proud of, and is deeply missed by her surviving children Donna Rayan (Joe), Mimi Gray (Pat), Marlis Jessick (Dave), Beverly Hays (John), Randy Andersen (Mary Kay), Joan Maag (Darcy), Curtis Andersen (Lisa), David Andersen (Lisa), and 18 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Mary’s family asks that any remembrances be made to Hospice of North Idaho or Pope St. Pius X Church in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

There will be a visitation held from 5-7 p.m. followed by the Rosary at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 28, at Pope St. Pius X Church, 625 E. Haycraft Ave. Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.

The Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 29, followed by a luncheon afterward, at Pope St. Pius X Church, with the Graveside to follow at 2:30 p.m. at Coeur d'Alene Memorial Gardens.
