Bernard Edwards, 88

Bernard D. Edwards was born Sept. 18, 1932, in Huntsville, Ala.

At the age of 17, he joined the Army for two years and was sent to Korea. He then returned to Alabama for a few months and then enlisted in the Air Force and spent 22 years in the military. He traveled the world, serving two tours in Vietnam and one in Thailand with special forces.

After the military, he and his wife settled in Spokane and then worked for the Parks Department for the City of Spokane, where he retired. After retirement, they traveled the country in a motorhome for more than 13 years.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Bobby Gene, and his wife Irmgard (Irmy) of 57 years. He is survived by his son Douglas (Cindy), two grandsons, Cody and Austin, and nephew Bobby Guy Edwards (Pamela); and a host of great-nephews and -nieces in Washington state and Alabama. Ed had a loving relationship with the Streich family who he loved and they loved him.

In 2015 Ed returned to Alabama and met a local girl named Janice and they later exchanged vows in the presence of God and witnesses on July 18, 2016.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 31, 2021, at Fairmount Memorial Park, 5200 W. Wellesley Ave., Spokane, Wash., 99205. Graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. at Fairmount.
