Drive-by shooting suspect arrested

COEUR d’ALENE — Police arrested a man who’s been wanted for months as a suspect in a drive-by shooting that occurred earlier this year.

Andrew D. Mayabb, 22, of Coeur d’Alene, is charged with discharge of a firearm at an occupied dwelling, as well as with unlawful possession of a firearm, both felonies.

Coeur d’Alene police responded March 12 to reports of a shooting that occurred around 11:40 p.m. the previous night.

A bullet reportedly passed through the front door of a Coeur d’Alene residence, bounced off a wall and became lodged in an interior door.

Neighborhood residents said they heard multiple shots and saw a white passenger vehicle speed away from the scene.

After police published still photos from security footage that showed the possible suspect vehicle, they received a tip from a person who said Mayabb may have been the driver.

Another witness reportedly told investigators that he saw Mayabb, who was on felony probation at the time, place a handgun and ammunition in the vehicle’s glove box shortly before the shooting.

Friends and neighbors said they had not seen Mayabb since the night of the incident.

Police obtained a $500,000 warrant for Mayabb’s arrest on March 15.

Mayabb was convicted of burglary in October 2020, according to court documents, as well as grand theft in a separate case.

He received a two-year prison sentence in each case, with another eight years indeterminate, to be served concurrently.

Both sentences were suspended and Mayabb was placed on supervised probation for three years.

Police arrested Mayabb late Tuesday.

Probation violation charges are reportedly pending.

Mayabb remains in jail on $500,000 bond.
