RATHDRUM — Hundreds of locals and visitors lined Main Street Saturday, taking in the hour-long Rathdrum Days parade.

“My column is called Main Street, my license plates say Main Street, and to be on Main Street in small-town U.S.A. is just the best," said Kerri Thoreson, a Post Falls City Council member and longtime Press columnist. "It’s just like being home.”

Local real estate agent Leslie Moug pumped up the crowd as she handed out American flags.

Flags waved in the wind and children prepared to catch candy launched from parade floats.

The idyllic scene on Main Street was matched by gorgeous summer weather.

“Absolutely perfect,” Thoreson said. “Definitely a Chamber of Commerce weather day.”

Music was in the air, as Summer Isbell watched her daughter Kensleigh run up the parade route collecting candy.

Returning to the area for a visit, Isbell and her mother are both alumni of Lakeland High School.

“I grew up here," Isbell said.

The procession filled with pageantry included the North Idaho Saddle Club, Rathdrum’s 4-H club - the Panhandle Pioneers - Ashley Bennett, Miss Gem State Stampede 2020, and the Kootenai County Republicans.

Among the movers and shakers, Lakeland High School’s Cheer team, with green and gold pom-poms, performed along the parade route.

North Idaho Gymnastics members tumbled their way down Main.

“Guess what?” Thoreson said. “We get to have a fair this year. The North Idaho State Fair is bringing double the fun in 2021!” The crowd roared back approval.

Chelsee and Daniel Davis, owners of Distinguished Gentleman's Barber Lounge in Coeur d’Alene, helped make the parade a family affair.

“We come pretty much every year,” Daniel said, bouncing his daughter Haylee on his hip.

“There is something really special about coming together for a parade to celebrate community,” Thoreson said.
