LITTLE LEAGUE

Idaho District 1 tournaments: Matchups have been set for this weekend's best-of-3 championship series for the district title in the 12U (Majors), 11U and 10U divisions.

In 12U, Hayden will face Lewiston.

In 11U, Coeur d'Alene will play Hayden.

In 10U, Coeur d'Alene will take on Post Falls.

In all divisions, Game 1 will be Friday at 5:30 p.m., Game 2 on Saturday at 10 a.m. and Game 3 (if necessary) on Sunday at 10 a.m.

All games will be played at the Canfield Sports Complex in Coeur d'Alene.

Courtesy photo The Lake City Thunder placed second last weekend at the Idaho state 16U fastpitch tournament in Spokane. The Thunder lost 2-1 in the championship game to Crossfire-Burke, a team the Thunder had beaten earlier in the winners bracket. The Thunder opened the tourney with a 13-0 win over the Scream. Kristine Schmidt and Layla Gugino teamed on the shutout. Catherine Bakken homered and had three hits, and Mateo Dorame and Megan Highfill both had three hits. The Thunder beat the USA Explosion 8-4. Schmidt and Delaney Gosch each had three hits for the Thunder. The Thunder beat Crossfire-Rollins 9-4. Gugino hit a three-run double in the fourth inning to break a 3-all tie. Schmidt struck out six in the win, and also had two hits. The Thunder beat Crossfire-Burke 4-2, as Gosch had two hits. The Crossfire-Burke then beat the Thunder 10-2. In the championship game, Crossfire-Burke edged the Thunder 2-1. Addie Brannen went 2 for 3 for the Thunder, and Schmidt struck out five.
