White, Jacob selected on final day of MLB draft

Washington State junior pitcher Brandon White was selected in the 12th round by the Miami Marlins in the 2021 MLB first-year player draft Tuesday.

White, taken as the No. 359 overall pick, joins teammates Kyle Manzardo and Zane Mills who were selected in the draft Monday. Manzardo, the former Lake City High star, was selected in the second round by the Tampa Bay Rays and Mills went to the St. Louis Cardinals in the fourth round.

It’s the first time WSU has had three players drafted in the first 12 rounds since 1977.

White was selected in the 14th round by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2018 MLB Draft out of W.F. West High School.

Gonzaga pitcher Alek Jacob, from North Central High in Spokane, was selected in the 16th round by the San Diego Padres.

On Monday, Zags third baseman Brett Harris was selected in the seventh round by the Oakland Athletics and shortstop Ernie Yake was taken by the Minnesota Twins in the 10th

Indians cancel two more postgame fireworks shows

SPOKANE — Postgame fireworks shows scheduled for Friday and Saturday following Spokane Indians games at Avista Stadium have been canceled due to the dry conditions and potential fire danger across the Inland Northwest.

The Indians are in the midst of a six-game series with the Eugene Emeralds that began Tuesday and runs through Sunday.
