Margaret Maureen (Matson) Richey

Margaret Maureen (Matson) Richey, “Margie”, passed away due to heart failure on December 5, 2020 in College Station, Texas, where she had been residing with her husband, J.C. Richey.

Margie was born in Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane, Wash., on May 18, 1962. She was the tenth child of 13 children born to Dr. L. Walter and Patricia Matson of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

Margie graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1980. She earned her CNA certification and worked in the field for several years.

Family and friends can all agree that Margie was one of the kindest and most giving individuals you would ever want to meet. She was beautiful, bright and extremely creative. Margie was always willing to help others and especially family members as the families grew and numerous nieces and nephews were born. She would give anyone and everyone “the shirt off her back” without hesitation. Margie always put others' needs before her own.

A private funeral service will be held on Friday, July 30, 2021 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. Margie will be laid to rest at St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Pastor John Mosier will officiate at both the Memorial Mass and the burial.

Margie was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. L. Walter and Patricia Matson and siblings; Walter William Matson, Thomas Joseph Matson, and John Charles Matson.

Margie is survived by her husband, J.C. Richey of College Station, Texas and siblings; Ann Elgee, Liberty Lake, Wash.; Mary Beth Grygny, Spokane, Wash.; Dr. Ellen Jaeger (Jerry), Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; Patrice Ovstedal (Terry), Edmonds, Wash.; Kelly Matson (Joyce), Mill Creek, Wash.; Sara Shaw (Carl), Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; David Matson, Altadena, Calif.; Barry Matson, Sunland, Calif.; and Christopher Matson, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Margie leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and others who also adored her.
