Pool play continues in Little League district tournaments

COEUR d'ALENE — There's a three-way tie for second place in the Majors division heading into the final weekend of pool play for the Idaho District 1 Little League baseball tournaments at Canfield Sports Complex.

Coeur d'Alene, Sandpoint and Hayden are all 2-1 in the Majors division, trailing Lewiston at 3-0.

Lewiston has wins over Hayden, Post Falls and Lakeland. Coeur d'Alene has wins over Lakeland and Sandpoint, Hayden has wins over Coeur d'Alene and Post Falls, and Sandpoint has wins over Post Falls and Lakeland.

Pool play continues today and concludes Saturday.

The top two teams in each of the three divisions (Majors, 11U and 10U) advance to a best-of-3 playoff next weekend for the district title.

MAJORS — Lewiston 3-0, Coeur d'Alene 2-1, Sandpoint 2-1, Hayden 2-1, Post Falls 0-3, Lakeland 0-3.

Gonzaga SBA to provide NIL content expertise to GU student-athletes

SPOKANE — Gonzaga Athletics is partnering with the nationally-ranked Gonzaga University School of Business Administration as part of Next Level, which is a comprehensive program that will provide Bulldog student-athletes with the education and tools necessary to build and elevate their personal brands.

The Gonzaga University School of Business Administration will provide on-campus instruction delivered by faculty who are subject matter experts in a wide variety of business topics, including personal brand management, financial and tax planning, entrepreneurship, and negotiations.

Manke wins 100th

Washington Men's Amateur

BREMERTON, Wash. – RJ Manke of Lakewood shot rounds of 66-67-68—201, 15 under par, to win the historic 100th Washington Men’s Amateur Championship in commanding fashion on Thursday, finishing seven shots clear of the rest of the field on the Olympic Course at Gold Mountain Golf Club.

Manke also won this championship in 2018. He is the first multiple champion in 52 years. Not since Don Scott won back-to-back titles in 1968-69 had any player won this championship more than once.

Reid Hatley of Hayden Lake, the 2019 champion, tied for 17th at 4-over 220. Hatley shot 71-75-74.
