POST FALLS — Capt. Greg McLean will be the new chief of police for the city of Post Falls, effective Sept. 1.

He'll replace retiring Chief Pat Knight.

Mayor Ron Jacobson and the Post Falls City Council appointed McLean to the role Tuesday night.

“We are thrilled to promote Capt. McLean to the position of chief of police,” Jacobson said. “Greg is a highly qualified law enforcement professional.”

McLean began working for the Post Falls Police Department as an animal control officer in 1989. He was hired as a full-time police officer the following year.

One of the first motor officers for the department, he’s also held the positions of field training officer, detective, patrol sergeant and patrol lieutenant.

Jacobson said that replacing Knight with McLean will allow the Post Falls Police Department to make a smooth transition and carry on the culture it’s developed in years past.

McLean said he looks forward to the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

“We have a talented team of professionals in Post Falls who are committed to public service and excellence,” he said.
