ATHOL — A 62-year-old Dalton Gardens man was arrested Thursday afternoon after allegedly confronting, threatening and shooting at a woman near the Ramsey Road and Highway 54 intersection.

The Kootenai County Sheriff's Office reports that Gregory K. Stocking was booked into the Kootenai County jail for attempted murder, two counts of aggravated assault and domestic battery.

Dispatchers were called at 3:09 p.m. Thursday by a woman who said a man in a red truck had fired shots at her near Ramsey and Highway 54.

Deputies report that earlier Thursday, Stocking wanted to retrieve personal belongings from the victim's residence, as they had formerly been in a relationship. There was an argument and he was asked to leave and did so without incident, deputies reported.

About 45 minutes later, Stocking allegedly returned to the victim's residence and went inside, as he still had a key, deputies reported. Another argument ensued, and he allegedly pulled a handgun, pointed it in the victim's face and pushed her to the ground.

She escaped and went to the gate of her driveway and flagged down a passerby for help, deputies reported.

As the victim was getting into the good Samaritan's vehicle and driving away, Stocking arrived at the gate and allegedly fired multiple rounds in the victim's direction, deputies reported. No one was hit by the gunfire.

Stocking entered his red Dodge pickup truck and allegedly began to chase the victim east on Highway 53 until the good Samaritan pulled the vehicle into an open business's parking lot in Athol, deputies reported.

After Stocking allegedly fled from the area, multiple units from the sheriff's office, Idaho State Police and Spirit Lake Police Department began canvassing the area searching for him.

A caller to dispatch said a vehicle matching the truck's description was stuck off Sheep Springs Road, north of Highway 54.

Stocking was later located near Highway 54 and Wheat Ridge Road, where he was arrested without incident.

Stocking has previous arrests for domestic violence in Kootenai County, KCSO reported.
