EMERGENCY: ‘Many’ support continuation

| January 29, 2021 1:00 AM

I am an avid reader of the Coeur d’Alene Press and rarely write to you with a disagreement. That changed Wednesday after reading Mr. Northrup’s reporting on the emergency declaration.

The headline reads, “Many locals want declaration to end” but in the body of the article (page 8) his definition of “many” is 19 people. Trust me, I could easily find 19, 90 or 900 people who are in favor of the emergency declaration if they are given the facts. I would hope the reporter would have a better definition of many.

Regarding the issue, this is a classic case of “wanting your cake, and eating it, too.” The proponents of this legislation want to continue receiving “emergency” funds while also stating there is no emergency. This is one reason many people — more than 19 — do not trust the government. Too many government officials want to make up the rules as they go along and twist them to serve their purpose.

I also take exception to the statement, “Nobody is following the protocols.” Again, I can easily find more than 19 people (your definition of many) who are following the protocols set by the governor.

I am as tired of the COVID issue as anyone, but now is not the time to cast everything aside just because we are tired.

I… and 19, 90 or 900… others DO NOT want the emergency declaration rescinded. We DO NOT want the emergency support and funding stopped until this situation is firmly behind us.
