TRUMP: Press editorial mistaken
I was surprised to see an editorial on the front page of Sunday’s Press. An editor has a right to voice an opinion but it carries a lot of weight with his subscribers especially when it appears on the front page.
The piece stated that impeaching Trump would further divide our nation and hinder unity. Our country has been divided for many years. Trump’s actions for the last four years have fanned the flame of division. He pushed conspiracy theories claiming fraud in the election.
As a matter of fact, he stated before the election that if he were to lose, it would be a fraudulent election. The lawsuits he made were thrown out by 60 judges and not accepted by the Supreme Court. Trump continued to communicate these false conspiracy theories to his base.
On the day of electoral vote validation, his incitement of protesters was shown on the news. The protest group turned into a terrorist mob that assaulted our Capitol. The assault was violent and caused mass destruction. Five people died, many were injured, and legislators and the vice president were seriously threatened. Our democracy was threatened!
“Letting Trump off the hook,” as stated in the editorial, does not demand accountability and justice or address preventing this happening again in the future. Investigating and possibly impeaching will protect our democracy.
