| January 24, 2021 1:15 AM

POST FALLS — Caden McLean scored nine of his 12 points in the first quarter, and the Post Falls reserves had their time to shine in a 58-34 Inland Empire League victory over the Moscow Bears on Saturday at The Arena.

“It was a great night as far as getting a lot of guys a lot of minutes,” Post Falls coach Mike McLean said. “I was happy with our offensive efficiency. And we were able to pressure full court, and play a little faster than Moscow wanted.”

Jack Sciortino had nine points, two steals and two assists off the bench for Post Falls (9-4, 5-1 IEL). Riley Peterson added six points, Josiah Shields five rebounds, Tommy Hauser four rebounds and two assists.

“I was happy with Riley Peterson and Zack Rodriguez with their defense against Moscow’s big kids,” McLean said. “And Tommy Hauser and Josiah Shields and Jaxon Anderson and Jack Sciortino did a nice job coming off the bench extending our lead.”

Sam Kees led Moscow (4-6, 2-4) with nine points.

Post Falls, in second place in the IEL, plays host to league-leading Lake City on Thursday.

Sandpoint 46

SANDPOINT — For the second straight game Saturday, the Bulldogs stuck with a 5A Inland Empire League foe for three quarters.

But just like Thursday against Coeur d’Alene, the Bulldogs struggled in the fourth quarter and allowed Lewiston to capture an IEL victory at Les Rogers Court.

The Bengals outscored SHS 17-9 in the fourth quarter after leading by just five entering the final frame.

“Again it comes down to getting good at playing in close games and competing for four quarters,” Sandpoint interim head coach Mike Roos said. “We competed for three quarters and two minutes, and then we kind of just went rogue out there for a while and kind of had some guys trying to do their own thing at times and not stay within the offense. But that’s part of learning a new offense and they are having to adjust to dealing with pressure in games.”

Ethan Butler led the Bulldogs (4-8, 0-6 IEL) with 10 points, Darren Bailey added nine and Colin Roos tallied seven points, five rebounds and two assists.

George Forsmann scored 16 points, Kash Lang 15 for Lewiston (7-5, 4-4).

Sandpoint plays host to Lakeland on Thursday.

“We made them take a lot of tough shots tonight,” St. Maries coach Bryan Chase said. “Defense is what we’ve hung our hats on, and it won us the game tonight.”
