PARENTS: Source of decisions

| January 24, 2021 1:00 AM

Jerry Castel’s letter to the editor went right to the heart of the matter. Parents, regardless of their abilities, qualifications, education determine the course of their child’s life, NOT the state in the guise of teachers, counselors and school boards.

For the moment, it is the parents business and this is provable in several ways. First, private schooling is available and the teachings and belief systems of the Board and its employees are not germane. So until that changes, the state does not have ultimate sole control of children versus the parents.

We had no counselors in grade school except the principal. The Board of Education had holes in it for boys. The world did not exist for children. Children learned the rules of house, classroom, etc. They could do it the easy way or the hard way.

Jerry writes that the Coeur d’Alene school board stated, “Many families are guided by historical values, religious beliefs and cultural standards, which is understandable, however, not always accepting gender identity and expression.” As Jerry notes, it is another way of saying that the school district know better than the parents.

Really? Is it possible to believe that a school board could really believe that their position trumps parental guidance, particularly in areas of morality. I have to inform them that there are only two genders.

Readers, the NIC Trustees just had a shake-up. Good or bad? The Coeur d’Alene School Board seems to be in a dire need of a come to meeting with God and the electorate.
