COEUR D’ALENE — A man is in jail after police said he put his wife in a headlock.

The 36-year-old Coeur d’Alene man is charged with attempted strangulation, a felony.

Police responded Friday to a report from a woman who said her husband had choked her. The man was not at the residence when police arrived.

The woman reportedly said the couple had an argument that morning that escalated. She said her husband grabbed her from behind and put her in a chokehold with his arm all the way around her neck.

She had visible red marks on her neck, police said.

One of the couple’s children reportedly said he saw his father push his mother against a wall during the argument.

When the man returned to the residence, he told police he had grabbed his wife’s arms but did not remember grabbing her neck.

Police arrested him at the scene.

Prosecutors said in court Tuesday that the man has two more pending cases of alleged domestic battery against his wife.

Judge Ross Pittman ordered that the man be held on $100,000 bail and issued a no contact order between the man and woman.
