SHERIFF: Selective criticism?

| January 22, 2021 1:00 AM

On Jan. 11, the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office posted a letter on its Facebook page. In this letter, Sheriff Bob Norris stated that his office would not enforce “unenforceable laws or executive mandates on its citizens.” As of Sunday, Jan. 17, there were 2,008 likes, 1,040 loves and 64 angry responses. On that same Sunday, the Coeur d’Alene Press editorial page had two negative responses and zero positive ones.

I find this discrepancy fascinating. Is there that much of a difference between Facebook and Coeur d”Alene Press readers, or is the Coeur d’Alene Press cooking the editorial books?

Editor’s note: At the time of Sunday’s publication, The Press had received no letters supporting the sheriff’s position. On the front page of the Jan. 13 Press, reporter Madison Hardy interviewed six residents chosen at random. Five of the six supported the sheriff’s decision to not enforce the mandate.
