SPIRIT LAKE — Trentyn Kreager and Blake Barrett combined for nine 3-pointers and 50 points as the Spartans held off the Tigers in the Intermountain League opener for both teams.

Kreager, a junior, hit three 3s and scored 29 points for Priest River (7-1). Barrett, a sophomore, hit six 3s and added 21 points.

“Priest River shot the lights out, and to be honest, we had a hand in their face,” Timberlake coach Mike Menti said of Kreager and Barrett.

Zach Yetter scored 20 points, Ethan Riley 16 for Timberlake (3-7), which trailed by 10 points with two minutes left, then had a shot to tie or win it at the end.

“I told my guys, you better get ready to strap it on with every league game,” Menti said. “The league is as tight as I’ve ever seen.”

Timberlake travels to St. Maries on Monday.

BONNERS FERRY — Sophomore Travis Petersen forced overtime with two free throws with 6 seconds remaining, then scored six of his 11 points in overtime as the Badgers rallied past the Wildcats in the Intermountain League opener for both teams.

Kellogg (2-4) made just 6 of 15 free throws in the fourth quarter, and finished 21 of 37 from the line.

“Real frustrating,” Kellogg coach Mike Martin said. “We did just about everything we could to lose that ballgame. We played the way we want to play for about two quarters. Things got a little tight down the stretch, and we needed one or two more basketball plays down the stretch.”

Braeden Blackmore scored 16 points for Bonners Ferry (6-4), which jumped out on top early in overtime.

“They just kept coming,” Martin said of Bonners. “There were times we felt we were going to open the game up, and they never went away.”

Logan Jerome scored 19 points for Kellogg, and Riply Luna added 16.

Kellogg plays host to the Post Falls junior varsity on Wednesday.

ST. MARIES — For everything that wasn’t going correctly in the first eight minutes, the Lumberjacks did enough in the next 16 to take care of their Central Idaho League opener.

Greyson Sands scored eight of his 15 in the third quarter, and Eli Gibson had 14 points, five rebounds and five assists for St. Maries (9-0).

“We didn’t come out with a lot of energy in the first quarter,” St. Maries coach Bryan Chase said. “It just seemed like the momentum was in their favor and they were getting to all the loose balls. We played with some energy in the second and third and started to turn it a little bit.”

Tristan Gentry scored eight of his 14 points in the first quarter for St. Maries, which hosts Timberlake on Monday.

SPIRIT LAKE — The Tigers are tough to beat on most nights.

When they can move the ball, they’re really tough to beat.

Brooke Jessen scored 15 points, Blayre Jeffs added 14 and the Tigers beat the Spartans in an Intermountain League game at Timberlake High.

“We shared the ball really well and scored on the inside and outside really well tonight,” Timberlake coach Matt Miller said. “We were really balanced on the interior, kept the ball moving and took what was open.”

Timberlake (11-2, 2-0 IML) shot 20 of 30 from the free-throw line.

“We did a good job of attacking the basket,” Miller said. “It was nice to see the balance we had tonight.”

Priest River (3-8, 0-3) hosts Bonners Ferry on Tuesday.

ST. MARIES — It took a half, but the Lumberjacks got going in the second half.

Unfortunately, the Bulldogs were going from the start.

Camden Barger scored 18 points for Grangeville (12-3, 2-0 CIL, which outscored St. Maries (4-8, 0-2) by a 32-8 margin in the first half of a Central Idaho League game.

“We just really didn’t come out ready to play,” St. Maries coach Gary Krumheuer said. “We’d had seven players at practice all week because we had players in quarantine, and we weren’t really prepared to play against a team that good. They pressured us early, and it kind of took us out of the game. We kind of got our legs back under us in the second half, and we’ll get another chance at them, so we’ll see what happens.”

Jenna Holder scored six points for St. Maries, which travels to Timberlake on Monday.
