FULCHER: End the deception
I am a political independent. I did not vote for Donald Trump, but I am proud that I voted for Mitt Romney, a man who has repeatedly demonstrated his courage, integrity and deep devotion to American democracy. I am ashamed to be represented by an individual with none of these qualities.
Let’s be clear. All of the imagined issues spouted by Trump have been thoroughly vetted in courts and by senior election officials who found absolutely no evidence of the claims put forward. Even the Attorney General concluded that there is no evidence of fraud.
Romney courageously spoke truth with integrity: “We gather today due to a selfish man’s injured pride and the outrage of his supporters whom he has deliberately misinformed for the past two months and stirred to action this very morning. What happened here today was an insurrection, incited by the president of the United States. Those who choose to continue to support his dangerous gambit by objecting to the results of a legitimate, democratic election will forever be seen as being complicit in an unprecedented attack against our democracy.”
By his actions, Fulcher aligned with those who stormed the capitol, joining with Trump to incite them and to undermine the foundations of American democracy. Tragically, he continues his complicity by encouraging those who will not accept the truth, inciting yet further efforts to undermine our democracy.
It is time to stop the dangerous deceptions, to speak truth and to heal our great nation.
